AWSOME

Barbarian Onslaught: Secret of Steel may be lacking story, but with everything else being SO GOOD, you forgive that little roadbump. Not being a fan of button-mashers, I really doubted this game at first. I mean, just pressing the spacebar over and over again sounds like you just wanted to make the world's worst game ever, but it soon becomes clear that you made a kind of game that everyone praises: simple to get into, but takes forever to master. The various interactions you can have with enemies and the environment set this game apart from any other. Even when surrounded on all sides, the situation is not hopeless, being able to exploit what the enemies are doing to your advantage and kill everyone with little damage to yourself, and a lot of style. I cannot count how many times I have gotten into a conflict, won, and used the power to kill the guy right behind him. The bosses are all unique, each requiring a different strategy to kill, and the enemies are varied just enough to not make the game repetitive or confusing. Music and artistic design are both excellent, and the small affects in the game, such as the shaking camera zooming in, and flashes of lightning in the background, all help the overall atmosphere of the game. The map is also very well put together, reminding me of the old maps in the Mario games, which I had always loved. However, there are a few changes I would think everyone would appreciate. First, more weapons built into the environment (throwing an enemy into a cactus, or the sharp branch of a tree perhaps), second, something that would rate your combos (a system seen in the Devil May Cry series or The House of the Dead: Overkill would work well), third, extra weapons, a shield, and leveling up (which would give the game even more depth, and allow a steeper difficulty curve), fourth, more finishing moves (I recommend playing Gears of War and Manhunt for inspiration), fifth, the ability to calibrate the spacebar settings (the game would sometimes mistake a light attack as a heavy attack) and sixth, being in the Fighting Games collection here at NG (because this game should be more available for everyone to experience). Great job, I am looking forward to a sequel. Also, you should try to make this a downloadable game for consoles, I mean, if ***ing Castle Crashers made it, this game would be a shoe-inFirst off, I want to address the issue people have been having with the last boss.

Honestly, if you've played Gears of War multiplayer for more than 30 minutes, you'll know that the contest(s) for the final boss is cake. A lot of people in chainsaw duels WILL be able to massacre you if you cannot complete the contests. But, there are ways to avoid this challenge (although if you do actually complete two contests, you basically win the fight). You could - although it's not the best option - copy the clone and jump around HOPING to get a hit or two in; although it probably won't happen. All you really have to be good at in The Maws of Chaos' map is knowing when to attack, and what attack to use. For example: in the pit where you fight the clone and 20 or so skeletons come out to finish you off, you can hold one side with constant, unresolving light attacks, or a few strong attacks, without taking any damage, while the diseased henchmen behind are still gaining ground. JUST before they reach the side you are holding, jump onto a ledge on either side, and constantly kick them down. From here, you can fall down when they are in one giant mob, and light attack/kick them down, to death. It's a great strategy imo, and I didn't take any damage at all when doing this. I defeated the last boss after 3 tries of experimentation. If you can find a better way of dealing with the Phantom Clone, then you could PM me.

The art-style for this game was so unique, along with the camera movements and rotations. I really liked it when you would be knocked down by an enemy, and the camera would almost tilt down so far that it'd seem to fall down with you. I couldn't stop thinking that this was like a Castle Crashers' second co
